Late 19th Century Japanese Indigo Dyed Shishimai Cloth (6) Ceiling Lights The dimensions of this tableOriginating in the Yamagata Prefecture, this fragment of Shishi maku cloth dates to the late Edo period. This indigo dyed fabric is hand woven using hemp, and showcases intricate tsutsugaki resist patterns. Originally, this beautiful textile would have been used in a traditional Japanese folk performance known as Shishimai (lion dance).
