I very much like the sophisticated texture of the mid palate that contrasts markedly with the slightly drying and lean finale. I would observe that this was carrying quite a bit of gas, which has the effect of accentuating dryness so its quite possible that the austerity of the finish will become less apparent once the wine is bottled.

The 2018 Alión follows the path of the 2016

but all the components are in the right proportions

Whether or not this singular Scharzhofberger Kabinett will display the longevity usually associated with that genre

It has a powerful aromatic intensity with white flowers

class and impressively persistent finish

This year’s Kesselstatt collection disappointed me slightly compared to last year’s

with a huge core of fruit that never seems over the top or heavy

linear and serious finish
