Nikka was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, a former Suntory employee who had studied at the University of Glasgow, and later trained as a blender at the now lost Hazelburn distillery in Campbeltown. Taketsuru opened the Yoichi distillery in the same year as

dark sugar

The Komagatake is vatted from Bourbon barrels and several other kinds of casks from the distillery in Shinshu

and obscurities - whisky as it comes

Signatory bottling

and Jack Daniel's (purchased in 1956 and as of 2007 the best-selling whiskey of any kind in the world)

with these eventually replaced by Buffalo Trace distilled stock

adding depth to the overall experience
