These dishes are real rarities, as they were made to contain potted char, a dish unique to the English Lake District, as the freshwater char is only found in that part of the world. It is thought that the fish, originally sea fish, managed to live in fresh water because they were trapped, at the end of the last ice age, by glacial debris
